All you need to know about pallet stability

A stable pallet is essential when transporting products and goods, especially when it comes to vulnerable cargo. Transport is safer, more sustainable and contributes to a lower Total Cost of Ownership. Hundreds of millions of products are rejected each year in Europe due to damage during transport; a damaged box can simply lead to the rejection of an entire pallet! And goods that are damaged because the load has been wrapped incorrectly are unnecessary costs for the manufacturer.

Trioworld is the expert in the field of pallet stability. We ensure that product damage during transport can be prevented, that less stretch film is wrapped per pallet, which results in lower CO2 emissions and maximises safety.Precisely: the right film is important in combination with the right settings of the wrapper. But more factors are important. A heavy load of, for example, bottles has different properties than a light load of, for example, tissue. So how do you achieve pallet stability?

What is pallet stability?

But what does pallet stability actually look like and how do you achieve it? We’ll tell you more about that on this page. Pallet stability is the packaging of a pallet in such a way that goods on it are not damaged during transport.

To achieve pallet stability, two factors are important:

  1. First of all, the machine used for wrapping the pallet. This is adjusted in such a way that the windings on the pallet are placed in the right place.
  2. The stretch film that is used to package the pallet.

Pallet stability testing

To determine whether a pallet is stable, we carry out various tests. We use marking film to test the stretch of the film on the wrapping machine. We then measure the force with which the film holds the load together. We call this Holding Force.

In order to ensure that the correctly set values and programme keep the pallet in balance, it is set at an angle of 26°. If the load remains upright on the pallet for 30 seconds without moving, the proof is provided.

EUMOS

Due to a strong increase in road freight transport, the need for pallet stability has only increased in recent years. Since May 2018, with the introduction of the EUMOS legislation, significantly higher requirements have been placed on intra-EU pallet transport. The legislation places heavy demands on the forces that the cargo must be able to withstand.

At Trioworld, we wrap the pallet so that it can be transported safely and stable, using the EUMOS guidelines. The manufacturer will have to offer the cargo to the carrier in a stable way. Of course, the carrier also has the obligation to secure the pallets and to transport them safely.

Trioworld uses independent external laboratories to test pallets for stability, whereby the customer can guarantee that his product complies with the regulations.
