Corporate Social Responsibility

Our vision is to lead the way in sustainable packaging solutions that improve the quality of life by ensuring quality, safety and minimal environmental impact. When developing and producing film, AFP is therefore always looking for the perfect balance between "people, planet and profit". AFP's environmental management is all about corporate social responsibility. AFP focuses on reducing the CO2 footprint of AFP itself and its partners, and our activities are visualized in the infographic below.

FROM SUGAR CANE TO STRETCH FILM

Katan-Ex Biobased High Performance stretch film is made from 50% biobased raw materials. The basis for this film is sugar cane, which is already a ‘remnant’ of the production of sugar. Sugar cane has no negative consequences for the food industry and the tropical rainforests. Sugar cane grows back within a year and converts CO2 into oxygen during this growth. This film fits in perfectly with the current vision of recycling plastics. No separate waste stream is required for recycling.

Ambition as a guideline for sustainability

We not only want to be the best with our products and in the solutions for our customers, but also make a valuable contribution to the CO2 footprint of our customers and our own. To this end, we have set ourselves ambitious targets.

Sustainability with a concrete approach

In our view, sustainability starts with 'doing'. And we do that like no other. Both internally and externally, we have many projects in the field of sustainability in which our principles are leading.

Developing with and for your customers

With knowledge of the market and a leading position in the field of new developments, we work together with and for our customers on solutions that make a substantial and structural contribution to the further reduction of the CO2 footprint.

Reduce, Re-use & Recycle

Our CSR strategy has been laid down in a multi-year plan and focuses, among other things, on the following topics:

  • Reduction of energy;
  • Reuse of usable waste;
  • Reduction and efficient separation of our waste streams;
  • Use of non-fossil raw materials;
  • Recycling of the products.

Corporate Social Responsibility is the basis

ISO26000, the internationally recognised standard for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is highly valued by AFP and forms the basis for our sustainability programme. Using the ISO26000 guidelines, AFP has drawn up an extensive and well-founded self-declaration. You can find this document here.

For the optimal solution

In the case of stretch film, we provide pallet stability with as little film as possible, taking into account the specific requirements of the load. Using our 7-step audit model, we analyse your process and advise you on the most optimal packaging solution.

In the case of food packaging, we ensure the optimal shelf life of your products and an optimal interplay between your packaging machines and our products. Do you have a specific wish? Then you have come to the right place.

Our R&D department has in-depth knowledge of materials and processes. In this way we look for and develop with and for you the most optimal packaging solution.

Development of our sustainable stretch film

Sustainability. It is perhaps the most current topic in our society, and one in which plastics play an important role. I mean that in a positive sense, because plastics have a greater value than we are often aware of. But that value is only realised fully when it is used the right way. If this is achieved, a plastic product often fulfils a role that limits its impact on the environment! As a product developer at packaging film producer AFP, I have the opportunity to put this into practice, and I would like to show how.

Interview with Christiaan Bolck

‘A great deal is already possible in the field of biobased plastics’

At AFP, we are always interested in sustainable developments in plastics. Someone who is also concerned with this is Christiaan Bolck at Wageningen University and Research. Bolck is responsible there for the applied research in the field of materials. An interview on how things stand at present.
